Vastness is what our souls aspire to.
Reason has depths deeper than the deepest
Abyss. The winds do not scare us,
Nor does the storm. There can be gloomy places
Where the black covertly shines out...

Moving South, East or West,
We roll on just the same towards
The great province of Nordland.

Ho! We were cast on the enchanted ocean
To sing our hymn to the unknown!
Ho! We sail larboard and starboard.
We were flogged away from the ground!

Ho! There’s no place for us on this earth,
No island to rest our tired bones!
Ho! Only death shall be waiting for us
Till our hearts are full drowned!

Slowly we approach the all-swallowing throat,
The insatiable eye of the sheer precipice:
“This can be nothing else than the great whirlpool of the Maelström.”

The darkest black
Hole. Water snakes coiling up.
Shadowy turmoil and foam.
The surge.

The increasing sound
Of fury. Grinding currents.
The boisterous moaning from
Hell.

The shattering whirlwind.
All feelings crushed into a waterwall.
The terrific funnel engulfing
It all.

We the survivors who stared into the dark below,
Yeah, we were meant to meet the netherworld.
Our travel companions are fear and unawareness. The flow
Leads us to war against our monsters and maelstroms.

To forgotten harbours we shipwrecked belong.
